原文（Ode to Autumn）

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,

Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;

Conspiring with him how to load and bless

With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;

To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,

And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;

To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells

With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,

And still more, later flowers for the bees,

Until they think warm days will never cease,

For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

First let me acknowledge the misty season,

The time when autumn’s golden hues begin,

When apples hang from boughs in quiet grace,

And pears grow ripe on branches near the ground.

Then comes the time of gathering, the busy day,

When all must gather in the harvest sheaves,

And winnowing winds do dance through open doors,

While twilight shadows lengthen and grow deep.

Lastly, there is the evening calm, the time

When labour ceases and the world is still,

And only nature’s music fills the air—

The cricket chirps, the owl hoots far away,

The distant sheep-bells chime, and all is peace.
